Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services: Our hospital is equipped to provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs.
Surgical Services: Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures.
Anesthesia: We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Using the latest and most advanced anesthetic monitoring equipment available we are able to closely monitor all of your the pet's vital signs during all anesthetic procedures.
Internal medicine consults: We offer in-hospital referrals to an internal medicine specialist who performs ultrasounds, endoscopic procedures and helps us with the diagnosis of more complicated cases.
Radiology Services: Our 5 station Tru DR Digital Radiography X-ray System developed by Sound Technology provides the latest in extreme high detail digital radiographs. The system is accompanied by a separate 25 inch flat screen LCD monitor to help provide detailed analysis of your pet's X-rays.
Electrocardiography Services: We provide on site Cardiac/ECG services. We also work closely with the cardiologists at CVCA - Chesapeake Veterinary Cardiology Associates.
Dentistry: Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery.
Laboratory: Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize a commercial veterinary referral laboratory for specialized diagnostics and consultations. Reports are quickly returned to the hospital through our secure on-line internet account.
Permanent identification: We offer AVID and HOMEAGAIN microchip placement and identification.
Pharmacy: We maintain a large selection veterinary specific pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives. We also work with a human compounding pharmacy and can have the taste of many medications disguised. Some medications can even be compounded for transdermal absorption. All you do is rub the medication onto the skin! Some medications may be available through your neighborhood human pharmacies. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.
Individualized Flea Control Programs: We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard and on your pet.
Dietary Counseling: We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance.
Behavioral Counseling: We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression. We maintain a list of local animal trainers at the reception desk. Please see our Pet Library for specific answers to questions.
Boarding: We provide high quality pet boarding. All boarders receive personal and individualized attention from our caring staff. We have cat only wards and dogs are walked and played with frequently throughout the day. We have a live-in attendant in an upstairs apartment. Pets may be dropped off and picked up during regular business hours Monday through Saturday.
Bathing: Routine and therapeutic bathing services and brush-outs are available by Valerie by appointment.
Grooming: Gentle and expert grooming services are available by Becky Smith by appointment.
